Kokkola Opera summer 10 year 22.-26.7.2015
The Kokkola Summer Opera Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary between 22 and 26 July 2015 with a double-bill of operatic works: the seldom heard opera in one act by Jean Sibelius, “Maiden in the Tower” and a world premiere of a new piece “The Maiden of Harrbåda”, an opera by composer Seppo Pohjola and librettist Jusa Peltoniemi based on an old ghost legend from the Kokkola area. The performance will be in two languages (Finnish-Swedish) and features the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, conductors Sakari Oramo and Erkki Lasonpalo and soloists Anu Komsi, Annika Mylläri, Riku Pelo, Sören Lillkung and Markus Nykänen. Director: Akupetteri Pahkamäki, Costumes: Henna Mustamo
The festival also has an established and popular series of concerts in historic and beautiful locations around Kokkola, such as the Town Hall, Workers´House and Saha beach in Ykspihlaja. The Kokkola Opera Summer continues to provide the Finnish musical summer landscape with an event of excellent quality and joyous atmosphere and wishes audiences welcome to Kokkola in the sun West Coast of Finland.
